The story behind Nclaves began three years ago, when Nclaves founder, Kiran Kundargi, attended a mid-summer conference in San Jose, California, to discuss the rising cost of health care and the related upcoming crisis. Panelists included the Dean of Medicine at Stanford Hospital, two venture capitalists, and a Director from the Kaiser Permanente Hospital System. That health care crisis is now well known to all of us.

One of the presenters in that conference described today’s patient care as “pulling a drowning person out of a river; one sees a person drowning in the river and only then do people on the river’s edge pull him out”. The speaker’s observation was “we don’t teach the person himself to swim better”. In a sense, self-actualization, at least in the sense of personal health care, is not happening as it should. He did mention how various websites such as WebMD have taken us farther along on that road of self-actualization, but more needs to happen.

Thinking a little further along that path, it became apparent that it is not only the person but also the person’s family as a unit that has to band together and be “self-actualized”. The role of the family-as-a-unit in the healthcare equation is not as utilized/leveraged/appreciated as it can be.

That was the "aha" moment that began Nclaves.

Nclaves is a new kind of secure Internet service that enables family members and trusted friends to connect using SmartHealth technology no matter where they live, around the nation or around the world. Our mission is to leverage the new Internet and other technologies so that family relationships can be strengthened to improve quality of life as well as to reduce the cost of family care.

We are dedicated to bringing new technologies together so that even the most computer-leery person will be able to use them. Seniors and the younger generation alike will be able to use the service simply and easily. Nclaves' desktop-style user interface is uniquely suited to achieve that goal.

We believe that by bringing the best of the Internet together with the best of personal computer capabilities, we can take the Internet applications to the next level. Nclaves is a first-of-its-kind consumer service to do so and leverages the reach and ubiquity of the new Internet and the simplicity and ease of use of desktop applications.
